Of Football, Television, Computer Games and Sports

Only this past weekend was I at the MPH Warehouse Clearance Sale at Dataran Hamodal with both my sisters and my 10-year-old cousin brother. Well, of course we were hunting for bargains there since many of the books would be marked down by about 30% to 70% (mostly were marked down 30% though).

As we reached Dataran Hamodal, my cousin was already looking for some books for kids (Transformers and Dragon Ball - I don't blame him for looking for those books). Then as we were browsing through the football section, we saw many autobiographies about Wayne Rooney and David Beckham. My cousin brother said that he would prefer to buy a Wayne Rooney autobiography than the book that I bought that day, "The Snowball: Warren Buffet and the Business of Life". I wouldn't blame him to not see the value of the book and say that he'd prefer to buy the Wayne Rooney autobiography but the funniest part is, he doesn't even play football at all!!

Why watch football when you don't even know to play the game?

I've seen many people who watch television for entertainment but it doesn't make sense to me when we watch something that we barely understand at all? Even if we spend the time watching it, I think more time and energy will be expended trying to understand what's happening than truly enjoying the entertainment. The fact that non-football players play football-related computer games does not add value except for the entertainment. As in the case of my cousin brother, it would be equally as illogical to spend so much time trying watching football and buying books on football. Other than the common jargons like 'free kick', 'goal', 'goalkeeper' etc., I doubt if he knew anything other than that. There's no addition in value for him by watching football anyway

I'd rather play football than watch people play football

For me, I would yield more fun by playing football myself than to watch people play football. The time used to watch a game of football can be used more efficiently by playing a game of football which consists of good exercise and fun. Playing football-related computer games do not add that much value except to facilitate the understanding of the game. Wouldn't it be more productive playing football than to watch football only?

Well, if you do not agree with my opinion, that would be fine with me. I understand that everyone has reasons for their own choices of entertainment but as for me, I wouldn't trade a game of playing football/sports for watching a game of football/sports or playing a football-related/sports-related computer games
